At the end of each term, there are College-organised buses, from the College to London Heathrow, and to Stansted Airport at night (an extra fee has to be charged for this, to cover the additional cost) and, if there is enough interest, to Victoria Station in the morning. And at the beginning of each term, buses from Heathrow Airport back to College. You should allow 4 hours for the trip to Heathrow; at Heathrow the bus will drop students off and pick them up at Terminal 3. More particular arrangements are made for 1st-year students when they first arrive.
To go to Gatwick Airport, you can travel either to Victoria and take a train (cost: £ 11, for info call 08457 484950) or bus (cost: £ 6) from there, or to Heathrow and take a coach (cost: £ 17; the prices are not guaranteed ...,) or take a train from Llantwit, which can cost as little as £ 17.50 if you book very early. For each of these trips, the time from the College is about six hours. – To return from Gatwick or from Stansted, again either take the bus or the trains and continue to Heathrow by bus or by underground, or take the direct bus to Heathrow.
How to Book
Places are assigned on a pre-paid, first-come-first-served basis – allowing people to sign down first and pay later has in the past turned out to be very 'inefficient,' (although it was only 5% of students that caused 50% of the work ... .)
So, to book a place you should pick up a booking form from my pigeonhole, (once it has been announced that they are available,) on which you should write your name clearly and your House, and the bus(es) you want to take, and then you must do one of the following:
- take the form to Housebank, if you have not opted out or been barred; the lower price will be charged to your account and the form passed to me by your Houseparents, or
- at any other time, give me the form and pay the higher cash-price for each trip, (and make sure you get a receipt!) The greater cost reflects the extra work made for others by students who do not use Housebank or don't use it properly. (Any profits go to the the Scholarship Fund now.)
The lists of who is booked on which bus will be available on this site, so after you have paid, you can check that you have been entered for the right bus; (a "V" by the name indicates that you want to go to Victoria, an "S" to Stansted.) Once you have paid, you can change your booking, provided that a seat is available, by completing another such form, indicating clearly what change you are making, and passing the form to me. To cancel a booking, also fill out another form, indicating clearly which trip(s) you are cancelling, and again pass it to me; I will then arrange for the refund in cash or through Housebank.

The basic price has been the same for the past two years, but I have had to increase the basic cost by £ 1 as the bus company has increased how much they charge us.
Because of the large amount of luggage many people take, often well in excess of what airlines allow, and often quite unnecessarily, the number of people we can put on each bus with their luggage is limited, to well below the number of seats on the bus, and this is reflected in these prices. (The prices quoted are for a one-way trip.) Note that it is cheaper to book and pay in advance, and to use Housebank rather than cash.
You will receive a refund on the return trip if you cancel at least two days in advance, using the e-mail form, so that your place can then be given to someone else.

If you want to make or cancel a booking during the holidays, you can send an e-mail using the e-mail form, but if I am away from College, it may take some time before I can add your name, (and there may of course be no more space on the buses.)
If there is space, you can use a College bus even though you have not booked and paid, and then pay at the College.
Buses will be leaving from Heathrow's Terminal 3 at various times during the day, the number of buses and precise times will depend on when the number of bookings and when people arrive. The meeting place is in the seating area in the Arrivals Hall.
There will be four or five buses, the last one at 20.30.
